On themove …..

…… in more ways than one!

Good morning from a heatwave England – highest May temperature on record – up to 31C today and for UK folk who don’t have air conditioning as a standard, it’s almost unbearable.  Fortunately it breaks tonight (possible with heavy rain and thunder storms).  Doesn’t help you when you are trying to take huge amounts of “stuff” to the household waste site.

We are moving out of our forever home bungalow into a “retirement Village” complex and buying a 2 bed apartment there. We got a sale on the bungalow quite quickly but had to hang on, fingers crossed, waiting for an apartment to become available – and actually the wait was barely 5 weeks – so now while the legals are in process, we are moving quickly to be ready for downsizing – and that means getting rid of “stuff” we don’t need / haven’t used in years – and that’s why we were at the waste site this morning.  I was once accused by a friend of being very materialistic – but frankly when push comes to shove, it’s not hard to get rid of the memorabilia of your life.

Meanwhile, as we wait for due process, we are on the move in a totally different manner – on Sunday we head down to London for overnight before heading out on Monday on a bucket list trip.  Eurostar train to Paris on Monday followed by train after train in First Class as we cross France, Switzerland and Italy by a grand total of 20 trains in 12 days – taking cogwheel rail up mountains in the Alps and then cable car back down – staying in Paris, Montreux, Milan, Tirano, Lucerne and Strasbourg before a long day heading back to London via Paris.

Weather forecast for the trip is quite mixed but what the heck – we are going to relax and enjoy ourselves (and visit the Lindt chocolate factory for a guided tour).

We’ll post pics as we travel – we’re already almost completely packed.  So for now …

Cheers
