Back again – d’ya miss me?

Our Vintage Years – Venting and Voyaging

2025 was a busy year for us – multiple holidays, London theatre trips, cocktails and great meals, and catching up with friends.  Loved it all.  But as the winter closed in, so to a great extent did we – especially me –and sitting in my chair reading or telewatching was complemented by multiple bouts of eye closing – only just for five minutes of course.  And there is a consequence to that – losing fitness progressively and simply not exercising the brain enough.  Yes, we still get out and about, but with a big adventure coming up it was pretty clear that we (I) needed to kickstart my fitness and my brain.

So Pam has got me exercising in the garden most days – and we both notice a step forward in my walking (sorry bad pun!)  But I really wanted to do something again that gets my brain ticking over again.  It must be a couple of years now since we killed off the Ask Pam and Allan website  – it was getting harder to maintain some sensible structure to it and the annual renewal cost was coming up.  But not only did I stop using my brain on it, but we also lost the content – trip reviews, dining reviews, hints and tips ….

We’re in our 70s – Pam is very active with her involvement at the community centre and her various crafting activities.  But I wanted to spend time away from my cosy tv-watching armchair and get productive again.  And then suddenly Mairead, a friend of ours, popped up in the inbox restarting her blog on her campervan travels into France and the Iberian peninsula – and I realised that a simple Wordpress site updated regularly (and I’ll endeavour to do it weekly at minimum) can stimulate my brain again and give us a permanent record of our thoughts and our activities.

So – we may be in our 70s (Our Vintage Years) but we’ve still got life to live and opinions and experiences to share.

Last Friday in London on the 40th floor of a tower block on the edge of the City of London, on a glorious day, having got there just fractionally late but exhausted after a chaotic couple of hours trying to get there from Euston Station (partial bus and tube strikes),we had one of the best afternoon teas we have ever had – not only taste and service, as well as the views, but also the pure theatre of the presentation of the food – Pam has shared photos so I won’t go over it – but it reconfirmed that I wanted to get back to being productive on the keyboard and sharing our life with you

In future blogs here, I’ll share the two major things that are about to happen in our life – moving home (once again, but hopefully for the last time) and taking 1st Class rail travel around France, Switzerland and Italy – and maybe the occasional meal out, or theatre trip.

Meanwhile

Take care of yourselves

Allan
